Fallen maple leaves drift across water so still the clouds seem to hang beneath the surface. The boats are still in their slips, but the leaves have already come down — that narrow week in a northern Michigan autumn when the marina is neither working nor closed, just waiting. Morning light breaks warm along the horizon while the bay holds everything in reflection: pilings, hulls, the whole overcast sky doubled and softened.
Shot on Grand Traverse Bay in Traverse City, Michigan.
