From above, the familiar becomes something else entirely. A small dock reaches into still water the color of oxidized copper, flanked by the pale, weathered arms of a fallen tree. The shoreline dissolves into reflection. What was ordinary at eye level — a quiet cove, a forgotten landing, the slow decay of wood reclaimed by water — becomes from altitude a composition of line and color, as abstract as it is specific.
Made in 2025 with a drone over the inland waters of Michigan’s Lower Peninsula, this image is a reminder that perspective is everything. The same place, seen differently, becomes a different place altogether.
